History
SouLatino was founded in 1994 to unite young Latino professionals across the New York Metropolitan area. What began as weekly Friday gatherings at Sequoia in the South Street Seaport grew into a vibrant cultural movement, celebrated for its top DJs and high-energy mix of hip-hop, house, Latin, and reggaeton music. Even after Sequoia closed following Hurricane Sandy in 2012, SouLatino thrived at other venues until the pandemic pause.
In the meantime, the creators of SouLatino expanded into hospitality, opening several Blend restaurants, including the renowned Blend on the Water. Today, they continue the legacy with monthly LatinSoulNYC events, keeping the SouLatino spirit alive.
